With Fusus Compact, you can optimally manage the centrifugal casting parameters for platinum

Among all jewelry-making processes, centrifugal casting of platinum is one of the most delicate to manage. Platinum (like palladium or steel) is, in fact, a high-melting-point alloy that requires much higher operating temperatures than gold and silver and demands extremely precise control of every stage of the casting process. Even the slightest inaccuracy in managing the casting parameters can result in porosity, shrinkage, or surface defects that are difficult to correct later on.

To address these challenges, ASEG Galloni unveiled one of the most interesting new additions to its line of centrifugal casting machines at T.GOLD 2025: the Fusus Compact, a compact and easy-to-install machine designed to offer all the performance of a professional casting machine while taking up minimal space—perfect for use even in workshops where space is limited.

Fusus Compact: Professional Microcasting in a Compact Format

The Fusus Compact was created to meet a specific need, particularly from small goldsmith workshops and ateliers: the need for a compact casting machine capable of processing gold and silver, as well as high-melting-point alloys such as steel and platinum, while delivering the same performance as high-end professional machines—but without the need for external auxiliary equipment. The distinctive feature of this model is, in fact, the integration—within a single machine body—of components that are typically external in traditional casting machines:

  • integrated vacuum pump: there is no need to connect an external pump, with obvious advantages in terms of space savings, wiring, and reduced installation time
  • integrated chiller: the closed-loop cooling system is also built into the machine; this eliminates the need for a dedicated water supply system, making the casting machine usable even in environments where securing a cooling water supply would be difficult

The result is a compact machine (810 mm x 760 mm x 1200 mm) that can be placed even in small workspaces and functions as a true Plug & Play casting machine: once positioned and connected to power and inert gas, the machine is ready to operate, without the integration complexities typical of casting machines that require external vacuum pumps and coolers.

The Challenges of Platinum Casting

Platinum and related alloys require melting temperatures that can exceed 1,700–1,800 °C, well above those needed for gold or silver. At these temperatures, managing the protective atmosphere and the heating rate becomes critical: even localized overheating can damage the alloy, while a pour that is not fast enough risks causing the metal to solidify before it has reached every cavity in the mold. This is where the high-acceleration centrifuge comes into play: the force generated by the centrifugal arm must be sufficient to propel the molten metal into every detail of the mold before the temperature drops below the critical point, and it must be controlled progressively to avoid turbulence that would compromise the quality of the casting.

Even in its compact form, the Fusus Compact adheres to the same control principles as Galloni’s higher-end centrifugal casting machines: induction melting with a self-mixing effect, a vacuum melting chamber with inert gas protection, and digital temperature control via a PID system, which precisely adjusts the power output as the temperature approaches the set point, minimizing the risk of exceeding the set temperature. The precise control of all these parameters makes the Fusus Compact a truly comprehensive, all-in-one solution even for small laboratories: a single machine, requiring no auxiliary equipment, capable of handling the melting of platinum (up to 350 g per cycle), gold (up to 250 g per cycle), silver (up to 200 g per cycle), and steel (up to 300 g per cycle).
